Olympus Global expands with £2 million warehouse
An engineering firm has unveiled a £2 million expansion.
Olympus Global has submitted plans to build a warehouse at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
The West Midlands-headquartered operator says the 15,000sq ft base will create up to 15 jobs and “mark a new chapter in its 50-year history”.
The site is expected to be completed later this year.
Bosses at the company, which supplies fasteners, castings and forgings to industrial and automotive clients, say the venture will support existing customers including Aycliffe-based car chassis maker Gestamp while securing new business across the north of England and Scotland.
They add the warehouse – which has been designed by Sunderland-based Building Design Northern – is expected to ship parts worth more than £7 million in its first year.
Keith Rice, managing director at Olympus Global, which complements its Tipton headquarters with sites in Hungary and Spain, said: “This supports the next phase of our growth strategy.
“We already have multiple clients in the North East, especially within the automotive supply chain, so it seemed the obvious location.
“The Newton Aycliffe site is the perfect location and enables us to build from scratch, rather than renovate an existing building.
“We’re delighted to be working with Building Design Northern to get this off the ground.”
Ryan Doyle, director at Building Design Northern, added: “This will be a significant industrial scheme not just for County Durham but for the North East and the UK.
“Being able to design and project manage the development from start to finish is fantastic.”
