'Major boost' as port opens £2 million bulk berth
A maritime sector firm has completed a £2 million expansion.
Port of Liverpool has opened a deepwater bulk berth.
Operator Peel Ports Group says it will provide “a major boost” to cargo handling work by allowing the base to welcome larger vessels.
The port’s first deepwater bulk berth in 40 years, it is based at the site’s Alexandra Complex, which is undergoing redevelopment to bolster bulk storage and handling services.
Phill Hall, Peel Ports Group’s Mersey port director, said: “This is a significant moment.
“The berth will improve the port’s overall ability to manage bulk cargo, provide more efficient operations and help us keep supply chains moving.”
