Lovell cooks up support for homeless charity
A North East homelessness charity has received a much-needed kitchen refurbishment, thanks to the support of a regional housebuilder.
Lovell’s North East division, based in Houghton-le-Spring, funded and managed the £6788 renovation of the communal kitchen at Oasis Community Housing’s safe haven in Gateshead, which provides accommodation and support for vulnerable young people.
The refurbishment, delivered with the help of Symphony Kitchens, has helped “breathe new life” into the charity’s facilities, fostering a “sense of pride and dignity” and making a “real difference for the individuals the charity supports”.
Rosalynd McNally, head of supported housing at Oasis Community Housing, said: “The kitchen is at the heart of our project, witnessing countless shared meals, support sessions and memories.
“However, it has grown worn and weary from its constant use by the many young people who have lived at the project.
“Lovell’s expertise not only breathes new life into this essential space, but also instils a sense of pride and dignity within our walls.
“We love the new design, and the upgraded kitchen will help provide stability and hope for those we serve in years to come.”
Lovell has been a sponsor partner of Oasis Community Housing since March 2023, supporting its mission to prevent homelessness and provide a secure environment for those in need.
Don Anderson, regional managing director for the North East region of Lovell, added: “There are the usual corporate-charity partnerships, raising funds by playing golf and climbing mountains – all of which we love to do.
“But our partnership with Oasis Community Housing goes deeper than that.
“We jumped at the chance to get involved with this much-needed kitchen makeover.
“We’re delighted to be funding the refurbishment, while also getting to utilise our skills and knowledge as project managers and housebuilders, to help make a real difference for the individuals the charity supports.”
