Bannatyne Group feeling fit as profits increase
A national health club and hotel operator has hailed the power of teamwork after earnings returned to pre-pandemic levels.
The Bannatyne Group saw pre-tax profit rise more than 40 per cent to £14.4 million in the year to December 31.
Turnover increased 7.7 per cent to £149.7 million as memberships grew by nearly 4000 to 219,500.
Owner Duncan Bannatyne said the performance means the Darlington-based firm, which has health clubs, spas and hotels across the UK, has “returned to the level of profits it was targeting five years ago”.
He added its progress was driven by “a great team working together… to deliver what members want at the right price”.
Duncan, who is also chair and chief executive, said: “These results demonstrate what can be achieved when a great team works together to turn things around.
“We encountered our first loss during COVID-19, and the post-pandemic period has required real focus on core activities and delivering what members want at the right price.
“This has succeeded and we have returned to the level of profits that we were targeting five years ago.”
And the former Dragons’ Den star said the firm is well placed to build further momentum through new classes and site upgrades, which will see the addition of padel courts to bases including Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, and Chafford Hundred, in Essex.
He added: “The introduction of new classes, new technology and an upgrade programme for our buildings and facilities will help us maintain members’ loyalty as we strive for sustainable growth in 2025.
“Like our members, we have become leaner and stronger, and are concentrating on staying fit for the future.”
