Work gets underway on ‘transformative’ health hub
A mental health base is being transformed to create a hub for community services in Harrogate.
Gateshead-headquartered Meldrum Construction has started a £2.1 million refurbishment of Hummingbird House on behalf of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust.
The three-storey former office block will be fully redeveloped to unite teams currently split across Windsor House, Dragon Parade and Jennyfield Health Centre, with officials saying it will offer a “much-improved environment and experience for patients, carers and staff”.
The work, funded through the NHS Capital Programme, includes a full internal upgrade, new services, fittings and minor external changes.
Steve Laughton, contracts manager at Meldrum, which also has offices in Stockton and Cambridge, said: “We are proud to be part of this transformative project.
“Our team is dedicated to delivering a facility that meets the highest standards of quality and functionality, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all users.
“We understand the importance of this hub to the community and place high importance on mental health as a business.
“We are collaborating closely with the trust to ensure every aspect of the facility is tailored to the needs of its patients and staff, enhancing the overall healthcare experience.”
The hub is expected to open in the autumn.
