Teesside entrepreneur rises to national acclaim

A roofing and insulation firm co-founder is celebrating national recognition.

Aman Chahal, chief executive of TaperedPlus, has been named runner-up in the Growth Story category at Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses Awards.

Since launching in 2014 with a £60,000 investment, the Stockton-headquartered company has grown its presence in the flat roofing and insulation design sector, nearly doubling turnover year on year.

With a technical studio in Wolverhampton and a rapidly expanding sales team, TaperedPlus continues to scale following a £5.5 million investment from BGF in 2023.

Aman, who previously completed the 10KSB programme, was recognised for his impressive entrepreneurial journey and the company’s continued success.

Inspired by his parents’ sacrifices as first-generation immigrants from India, Aman became the first in his family to attend university, earning a degree in information management from Leeds University, followed by an MSc in international management at Teesside University and a postgraduate diploma in e-commerce from the University of Sunderland.

After graduating, he joined a major structural insulation firm, quickly rising to become national flat roofing business development manager.

It was there he met Robert Vass, then flat roofing product manager, and the duo launched TaperedPlus after spotting a gap in the market, thanks to financial backing from their families.

Aman said: “Being shortlisted alongside such incredible businesses is an honour in itself, but to be named runner-up for the Growth Story Award is beyond anything I could have imagined.

“I dedicate this achievement to my parents.

“Their example of determination, hard work and perseverance gave me the blueprint for success.

“I carry that with me every day, and it continues to motivate me.”
