Esh to deliver £65 million affordable housing drive

A construction firm is expanding its footprint across the North East and Yorkshire with a multi-million-pound affordable housing drive.

Bowburn-headquartered Esh Construction has secured land across four sites to deliver nearly 300 homes.

The firm’s latest schemes include two North East projects in Gateshead and Jarrow, worth £29 million, featuring homes and an extra care development.

Meanwhile, in Yorkshire, the contractor has completed land deals in Bridlington and Hull worth £36 million, which will include a mix of affordable homes and a 68-apartment extra care scheme in Bridlington, as well as 65 affordable homes in Hull.

Laura Devaney, Esh Construction land and partnerships director, said: “With the Government outlining targets for 1.5 million new homes within the next five years, local authorities have been urged to grant planning permission for approximately 462,500 homes each year.

“The demand is high for quality developments to be brought forward, and we have another wave of sites across the North East and Yorkshire that are already progressing towards planning submission.”

Launched in 2019, Esh’s land-led solution has already delivered hundreds of affordable homes across the region by working closely with social housing providers, local authorities and land agents, including the development of 96 new affordable homes in Easington, County Durham, on the site of a long-demolished working men’s club.

As an investment partner with Homes England, Esh can also access grant funding to help unlock opportunities for registered housing providers.

Laura added: “We have forged important relationships with Homes England, local authorities and registered housing providers, and the culmination of these four projects is testament to the work going on behind the scenes to carry out surveys and investigations into site viability.

“Across all of our sites, we have worked closely with partners to ensure the local area needs have been fully considered.

“By securing funding on behalf of our clients through our status as a Homes England investment partner, we have also aided scheme viability when bringing the projects to market.”
