‘Worst film ever made’ comes to Newcastle
The Tyneside Cinema, in Newcastle, is taking a departure from its usual fare to host screenings of the 2003 cult classic The Room.
Widely regarded as “the worst film ever made” and “the Citizen Jane of bad movies,” the 2003 romantic drama about a San Francisco banker called Johnny has earned its spot in movie history for its ‘so bad it’s good’ charm.
This year’s special screenings will feature live commentary from Greg Sestero, who plays Johnny’s best friend Mark and will join audiences to enjoy/endure the film.
Fans will be treated to an inside take on the creation of the film, making for a unique and entertaining experience.
Nic Greenan, chief executive and custodian at the Tyneside Cinema, said: “It’s always been our policy at the Tyneside to provide the very best in global cinema for audiences in the North East – but for one weekend only we’re departing from our remit.
“These special screenings of a movie which has rightfully become a cult classic will be a must-attend for all lovers of ‘so bad it’s good’ filmmaking with Greg Sestero on hand to explain how a movie that hit new depths in cinema was made and what it’s like to have starred in such an infamous picture.
“The Tyneside is all about creating unique experiences - and this certainly falls under that category.”
Screenings of The Room with Greg Sestero will take place on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17.
