Firm boss 'realises dream' with foundation launch
A property, leisure and care firm boss has launched a charitable venture.
Meenu Malhotra has set up the Malhotra Family Foundation.
The Malhotra Group chair says the Newcastle-based endeavour marks the “realisation of a long-held dream”.
It builds on previous charitable donations by Meenu and his family, with more than £1 million already set aside for health-related and community-based causes.
The first commitment is a £1.5 million project for a community-based charity hub at Darras Hall, near Newcastle, in an existing historic building, which is already contracted to purchase and will create 25 jobs.
Previous donations have included funding towards orthopaedic research at Newcastle University’s Medical School in collaboration with Newcastle Hospitals Foundation Trust, and £100,000 towards the building of The Institute of Neurosciences of West Bengal ‘Kolkata Hospital Charity Appeal’.
The Kolkata hospital opened in 2014, offering half its beds free to people in West Bengal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
Meenu said: “The Malhotra Family Foundation will enable us to continue our support of worthwhile causes in the UK and in Asia.”
