Ashbrookes backed to deliver student scheme
A real estate firm has been backed to transform an ex-music and dance venue into student accommodation.
Ashbrookes Group has secured planning approval to redevelop Middlesbrough’s Linthorpe Assembly Rooms.
Bosses say the 16-apartment scheme marks “a step forward for the town’s student offering”.
They add work on the development, led by Stockton-based Kaldani Builders, will begin in the coming weeks.
The project, backed by funding from Momentum Finance Group, will also include restaurant space.
Built in 1924 and designed by former Middlesbrough mayor Robert Ridley Kitching, the Linthorpe Assembly Rooms hosted music and dance events throughout the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
The scheme is part of Ashbrooke Group’s wider development strategy, which officials say will see more than 170 student rooms delivered across the North East in the coming years.
Arif Mushtaq, chief executive, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to regenerate a cherished local building while addressing the need for more high-quality accommodation in Middlesbrough.
“We’re creating large, modern apartments that are ideal for postgraduate and international students.
“It’s a step forward for the town's student offering and reflects our long-term commitment to investing in Middlesbrough's future.”
