Esh Construction and Together Housing have begun work on a £13.1 million housing project, in Hull

Esh breaks ground on Hull housing scheme

An affordable housing development is underway in Hull, set to address the growing demand for high-quality, accessible homes.

Bowburn-headquartered Esh Construction has partnered with Halifax-based Together Housing to build 65 homes just three miles from Hull’s city centre, in a £13.1 million land-led deal.

Bosses say the project, on land opposite the Freedom Centre, between Ryehill Grove and Wyton Grove, will include a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes, all with private gardens and parking.

They add that 16 of the homes will be designed with accessibility in mind, featuring step-free access and potential for future adaptations.

Simon Woodward, operations director at Esh Construction, which recently announced a £65 million affordable housing drive to deliver nearly 300 homes across four sites, including the scheme in Hull, said: “This latest project builds on the success of two previous developments delivered by Esh in partnership with Together Housing, which have provided over 160 affordable homes in Halifax and Doncaster in the past two years.

“By utilising our land-led solution to bring the latest project forward, a huge collaborative effort has taken us through the planning phase, and we’re excited to see it take shape in the coming months.”

Dai Howells, assistant director of development at Together Housing, added: “We’re thrilled to have broken ground on another exciting housing project in partnership with Esh Construction.

“Together, we align on our ambitions to deliver high quality and affordable homes that will in future, support people and families who want to build roots in the city.

“The addition of adaptable homes will help to increase the availability of affordable homes for those with accessibility needs and supports the need to develop more diverse communities built for all to benefit from.”

The homes will be available for affordable rent upon completion, which is expected in early 2027.

Efficiency North were the land promoter for the site and Ward Hadaway provided Esh with legal support in the land transaction.

Esh Construction will be supported through the development by Acanthus WSM Architects, Eastwood and Partners and CPC Project Services LLP.
