The Intelect Mechanical team at Riverside Park, in Middlesbrough

Still cutting it after 20 years

A Middlesbrough-based mechanical engineering firm is celebrating two decades of steady growth, investment and commitment to developing talent across the Tees Valley and beyond.

Intelect Mechanical has marked its 20th anniversary with a significant investment in new technology, including a high-spec fibre laser cutter and advanced 3D scanning equipment to enhance precision and open up new markets.

Founded in 2005 by directors Kevan Thomas and Steve Gent, the company began life in a rented unit on Walton Road with a small team – three of whom remain with the business today.

It now employs 23 people from its base on Riverside Park, where it operates from two custom-owned facilities.

The firm, which originally grew through its relationship with KP Snacks, now counts Nestlé and Tetley among its long-standing blue-chip clients in the food and drink manufacturing sector.

Intelect Mechanical, which also has offices in Grimsby and Leicester, maintains a strong focus on workforce development, with four current apprentices and five former apprentices now in senior roles.

Dave Eason, its first-ever apprentice, remains with the company as a member of the management team.

Looking to the future, the company is committed to continuing its growth trajectory, focusing on innovation and delivering top-tier mechanical engineering solutions.
