Airport lands year-round Malaga flights
An airport is extending holiday options with new year-round flights to a popular Spanish destination.
Teesside International Airport will now offer twice-weekly flights to Malaga all year, as Ryanair extends its summer schedule due to strong demand.
The route, relaunched in March after more than a decade, was originally planned to run only until October.
Flights will now continue every Wednesday and Saturday beyond summer.
Phil Forster, managing director at Teesside Airport’s, said: “It’s great to see Ryanair has made this further commitment to us as part of their ongoing partnership with us.
“We’re always working to secure more flights for destinations holidaymakers want to see – we’re out trying to get our name out there, and show people across Teesside, across the North East and across the North of England that we are a great option for a flight abroad.
“Despite challenges in the aviation industry, all our staff ensure we keep punching above our weight.
“We’re not standing still, and I can’t wait to see even more people coming through our doors for 12 months of the year.”
The move comes as the airport’s summer schedule ramps up, including routes to Alicante, Faro, Majorca, Dalaman and Corfu.
Travel firm TUI is also offering package holidays using Ryanair flights, further boosting regional connectivity.
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “It was a joy to head out to Malaga on a packed flight earlier this year – and it’s fantastic Ryanair has recognised the demand so far and made their Teesside service to the Costa Del Sol a year-round offering.
“It was great to deliver on my pledge to bring back Malaga – people were asking for it and we delivered.
“We’re working round the clock to bring more flights to our departure boards – we know there’s a huge demand to get more flights to more destinations, and we’re determined to make Teesside the thriving airport we know it can be.
“This is another big boost, and I’d urge people to book!”
