Carpet firm celebrates 50 years in business
A family-run carpet firm in Darlington is marking a milestone anniversary after five decades of serving the local community.
Burnsides Carpets, established in 1975 by George Burnside, started with a focus on high-quality, value-for-money flooring.
Over the years, it became a cornerstone of the town, reflecting local values.
Following George Sr.’s retirement, his children, George Jr. and Marina, took over and continued the family legacy.
George Jr. said: “Dad believed he could offer local people a great service at prices, at that time, would suit any budget.
“Over the subsequent years he worked long hours to establish the business we all know and love today.
“Sadly, Dad passed away in 2018 but I am sure he will be looking down on us now and will be so proud that his legacy lives on through those who loved him most.”
Now, with George’s daughters, son-in-law, and brother-in-law involved, Burnsides remains a true family affair dedicated to providing excellent service and quality to their customers.
Marina added: “As a family we really care and to me that’s the difference.
“All of us know exactly what it takes to make our customers happy.
“Many have used us for years and that personal touch, I believe, has been a key part of our success.
“These days it’s sad to see so many independent businesses going under, so we are proud and privileged to continue to be able to serve our local community with the same drive and commitment that my Dad did when he first set the business up back in the seventies.”
