Excavator maker digs in with £1 million expansion
An excavator maker says it has dug foundations for fresh growth with a £1 million warehouse expansion.
Hitachi Construction Machinery UK has moved into a 32,000sq ft base at Monkton Business Park, in Hebburn.
Bosses say the building – which has created six jobs and adds to existing units on the South Tyneside industrial estate – will boost manufacturing capacity.
Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy oversaw refurbishment of the warehouse, which included a new yard and gatehouse, dock leveller installation, gantry crane enabling works, office upgrades and roof repairs.
Work was supported by main contractor Tri Construction alongside GSS Architecture, structural engineer SHED and mechanical and engineering firm JCP.
The scheme followed Silverstone Building Consultancy’s delivery of a two-storey extension at Hitachi Construction Machinery UK’s Hebburn headquarters, with bosses revealing further projects are in the pipeline.
Dave Roberts, Hitachi Construction Machinery UK chief executive, said: “The new facility has allowed us to save on transport costs by enabling more machinery manufacturing and preparation to happen on site.
“Silverstone has done an outstanding job of delivering an industry-leading facility that will improve our capacity and productivity.
“We are continuing our partnership to deliver the next key pieces of the jigsaw that will create a world-class facility in Hebburn.”
Phil Bone, director at chartered building surveyor Silverstone Building Consultancy, which has further offices in Leeds and London, added: “It’s a thrill to be involved in helping such a respected, global brand to expand and thrive in the North East.
“We are very proud of the work carried out.”
