Top marks for Teesside College Group
A North East college group is celebrating a major milestone after being recognised for excellence in education and student support.
The Education Training Collective (Etc.), which incorporates six colleges and training providers including Stockton Riverside College, Bede Sixth Form, Redcar and Cleveland College, NETA Training, The Skills Academy and Innersummit, in Gateshead, has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted.
Following an inspection in March, the report praised the group’s inclusive culture, effective teaching and strong employer links across Teesside and Gateshead.
Inspectors commended students’ progress and their exemplary behaviour, as well as the group’s industry-standard facilities and its role in addressing local skills gaps, particularly in renewable energy and health and social care.
While apprenticeships received a ‘Good’ rating, all other areas were judged ‘Outstanding’.
Grant Glendinning, chief executive and group principal of Etc., said: “This is a phenomenal result for every staff member and student across the group.
“The result represents the pinnacle of years of hard work, determination and a firm commitment by all to get us to this point.”
Jason Faulkner, deputy chief executive officer of Etc., added: “We are blown away by today’s report and incredibly proud to know that Ofsted has recognised the drive and determination of our staff, governors and learners, across the group, to achieve the best possible results for all.
“Achieving Outstanding is amazing for our students, for our staff, our communities and stakeholders.
“However, it is important that we continue to be amazing and continue to deliver outstanding services as it is our duty as local colleges serving our communities.”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen added: “This is a superb achievement, and my congratulations go to all the staff and students who have secured this Outstanding rating.
“Etc. is playing a vital role in supporting our ambition to ensure local people have access to the very best skills training and can take advantage of the fantastic employment opportunities being created across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.”
