Merit builds on safety standards success
A North East construction specialist has strengthened its credentials with a major health and safety accreditation.
Cramlington-based Merit, which works across healthcare, life sciences, education and battery technology sectors, has achieved ISO 45001 certification, a globally recognised standard for occupational health and safety management.
The certification was granted by the British Assessment Bureau following an eight-day audit of the firm’s systems and processes.
With this latest recognition, Merit now holds the full HSEQ triple certification – ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety).
Tony Wells, chief executive at Merit, said: “I am immensely proud that we have achieved ISO 45001 certification.
“This accreditation not only enhances our operational protocols but also reflects our dedication to the welfare of our employees, client and the communities we serve.
“At Merit, we believe the prioritising health and safety is a fundamental part of delivering innovative solutions to our customers.”
The award cements Merit’s reputation for delivering high-quality facilities, with ongoing projects including a new community hospital, in Berwick, a Same Day Emergency Care unit, in Bedford, and a Community Diagnostic Hub, in Woking.
Merit also recently completed a new Elective Hub at Solihull Hospital to support faster treatment of elective procedures.
Michael Marley, Merit’s HSE manager, added: “I am thrilled that we have attained ISO 45001 certification, which reinforces our unwavering commitment to health and safety within Merit.
“This achievement reflects the hard work of Merit’s workforce in fostering a culture of safety and demonstrates our proactive approach to minimising risks.
“This certification is not just a requirement; it is a fundamental part of our mission to ensure that every employee returns home safely at the end of the day.”
