Two Tales brings story magic to Durham
A new cultural initiative in Durham is opening doors to creativity, learning and community through the power of storytelling.
Children’s literature champion Seven Stories has launched Two Tales, a pop-up space on Durham’s high street, as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.
Based in Prince Bishops Place Shopping Centre, the venue offers a mini version of the award-winning Seven Stories Visitor Centre, in Newcastle.
Set over two floors, the space features a gallery, interactive storytelling, educational workshops and rare highlights from the Seven Stories Collection.
Two Tales aims to engage families and schools while supporting literacy development and celebrating children’s books.
Wendy Elliott, chief executive of Seven Stories, said: “Celebrating books, promoting wellbeing and serving as a cultural hub where visitors can appreciate our world-renowned collection has always been our aim.
“We’re delighted to have opened this accessible and immersive space where everyone can share in our passion for children’s books and the people who create them.”
James Taylor, regional director of Citrus Group, the owners of Prince Bishop’s Shopping Centre, added: “We’ve been working for some time supporting Seven Stories to bring this amazing opportunity to the city.
“We are absolutely thrilled with the support given from a wide range of stakeholders.
“Now that Two Tales is open to the public, this is a truly exciting and innovative addition to the high street and one that places children’s literature at its heart in a fun, engaging and inspirational facility that will appeal to a wide range of visitors.”
Officially opening on Friday, May 16 with a launch weekend for funders, friends and families, Two Tales will be open to the public daily, offering coffee, community and the chance to discover something new behind every page.
