Deloitte plans hundreds of jobs in tech centre drive

A professional services firm has unveiled plans to create hundreds of jobs.

Deloitte is opening four technology delivery centres across the UK.

Bosses say the bases – in Belfast, Cardiff, Manchester and Newcastle – will create around 750 jobs over the next three years.

They add the centres, which will open on June 1 and initially be overseen by 750 existing Deloitte technologists, will design apps, deliver cloud engineering and embed artificial intelligence into software and systems to help clients better manage business tasks.

The move follows a North East pilot hub last year, which attracted more than 500 applicants and is now led by a 40-strong team that officials say will double in coming years.

Anil Gupta, Deloitte practice senior partner for Yorkshire and the North East, said: “I'm very proud of our investment in Newcastle, which reinforces our commitment to the region.

“As businesses reimagine themselves in the face of huge changes in technology, our centres represent a significant milestone in how we better serve clients, delivering solutions that are fit for the future.

“This investment demonstrates our confidence in Newcastle's potential as a centre for innovation and our ambition to be the leading professional services firm driving digital transformation in the region.”

Richard Bray, Deloitte managing partner – regions, added: “I’m excited about the opportunities these centres create for people wanting to start a new career in technology.

“We chose the North East as the pilot, initially hiring a 25-strong cohort from a diverse pool of applicants that included individuals without prior technology experience, veterans and those returning to work after a career break.

“We’ve since further grown the headcount to 40 people and our intention is to at least double this over the next three years.

“I look forward to welcoming many more talented individuals to the company.”
