BDN and Fitz unite for ‘seamless’ service

A North East architectural and engineering duo are forging a new partnership to expand their reach and offer a “seamless” service from design to delivery.

Building Design Northern (BDN) is set to bring fellow Sunderland-based Fitz Architects under its umbrella, creating a specialist, multi-disciplined company that will continue to operate as Fitz while strengthening BDN’s luxury residential services. 

Bosses say the collaboration promises clients a fluid ‘concept to completion’ experience, covering everything from technical design and planning to engineering and project management.

Richard Marsden, managing director of BDN, said: “We acquired Fitz Architects back in 2023 as part of a strategic move to further complement and strengthen our own architectural design services and delivery capability. 

“Since that time, both companies have continued to grow apace and carve a distinct niche with the UK’s built environment sector.

“Rather than both companies continuing to operate separately, it therefore makes strategic sense to bring BDN and Fitz together whereby clients can have a seamless experience from start to finish, with every project requirement being expertly served under one roof. 

“We have the very best professionals in their field here and regardless of project type, all will be fully managed by BDN and Fitz collaboratively from start to finish.”

Both companies have established impressive track records, with BDN delivering projects ranging from supported-living schemes to the £4 million redevelopment of Sunderland's award-winning Sheepfold Stables, while Fitz Architects is known for its visionary residential designs across the UK. 

Richard added: “We’re somewhat disrupting the traditional norms of the industry as full-service capabilities are usually more typical of larger, well-known national organisations. 

“Therefore, we’re excited to see this develop as we continue to deliver exceptional residential, commercial and industrial schemes for clients across the UK. 

“We have many more new projects in the pipeline and feedback we have received so far has been extremely encouraging indeed.”
