RMT expands local presence in Hexham

An accountancy firm is expanding its presence with a new Hexham office.

RMT Accountants & Business Advisors, headquartered in Newcastle, is opening a Gilesgate office while maintaining its existing location at Hexham Mart.

Bosses say the move supports the firm’s ambition to grow its client base in West Northumberland and is expected to create new jobs.

Stephen Slater, managing director at RMT Accountants, said: “We believe it’s important for us to be part of the community that we’re serving and to have a first-hand understanding of the opportunities, challenges and issues facing local business owners and managers.

“With one well-known national accountancy firm recently choosing to close its Hexham office, we’re now taking the opposite approach and opening in a second location to ensure we have the extra office space available that we believe we’re going to need.

“Our existing Hexham team is highly skilled and extremely knowledgeable, and we’re expecting to see it grow in the coming months to support our local development plans.”

Established in 1954, RMT offers financial and business advisory services through teams in tax, corporate finance, healthcare and restructuring.

The firm joined the Tyne Valley market last year after acquiring rural-focused McCowie & Co and now serves agricultural businesses alongside a diverse mix of SMEs across the North East, Scotland and North Yorkshire.

Peter McCowie, who joined RMT after its acquisition of McCowie & Co, added: “Our Tynedale team has been part of the local community for more than 50 years and the access to significant new resources and expertise that becoming part of RMT gave us is already delivering tangible benefits to our local clients.”

RMT is part of the Sumer Group, which employs more than 2200 staff across in excess of 40 offices.
