Builder feeling fit following £14 million sports work
A builder has completed £14 million work to overhaul a learning hub’s sporting offer.
Henry Boot Construction has revamped facilities at Minsthorpe Community College, in South Elmsall, near Doncaster.
Improvements include a new 6394sq ft sports hall, a multi-use games area, activity studios, changing rooms and office and storage space.
Bosses say the venture, described as a net-zero carbon development, also includes a green roof and sustainable drainage, and has “brought the college’s facilities into the 21st century”.
Ryan O’Loughlin, regional director at Henry Boot Construction – which operates as part of Sheffield-based Henry Boot – said: “This facility will have a lasting impact on the students of Minsthorpe Community College and the wider South Elmsall, South Kirby and Upton community.
“This project was about more than just bricks and mortar, it was about creating a sustainable space that supports physical and mental wellbeing, learning and community engagement.
“This development will leave a positive legacy for the whole community.”
Mark Gilmore and Rachael Merritt, joint principals at Minsthorpe Community College, added: “The new sports centre is the final piece in the jigsaw in bringing the college’s facilities into the 21st century.
“The experiences of our amazing students and fantastic community will be enriched for years to come.”
