Newcastle University names new medical sciences lead
Newcastle University has appointed Professor Quentin Anstee as pro vice-chancellor of the faculty of medical sciences.
A practising clinician and NIHR senior investigator, Professor Anstee is recognised globally for his research into liver disease and personalised medicine.
He is currently Dean of research and innovation and holds the Ruth and Lionel Jacobson chair of personalised medicine.
Professor Anstee joined the university in 2010 and will now lead the strategic development of education, research and partnerships within the faculty, working closely with the NHS and other institutions.
Professor Anstee said: “I am deeply honoured to take on the role of pro vice-chancellor of the faculty of medical sciences.
“As a native of the North East and a member of the university for 15 years, our tradition of excellence in medical education, research and clinical impact is a source of immense pride.
“These are challenging times for UK higher education, but they also present opportunities.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across the university, our students and our partners in the NHS and across the region to build on this legacy.”
Professor Chris Day, vice-chancellor and president at Newcastle University, added: “I am delighted to have Quentin join our executive board team.
“At a time when we are facing so much change within our university and the sector itself it is really positive to have someone who will work closely with colleagues and teams across the university and the region to further develop our strengths in the faculty of medical sciences.
“As a highly respected clinician and academic, he will further enhance our track record of taking our discovery research into the clinic.”
