£250 million city revamp blueprint moves forward
A £250 million blueprint to revitalise Scotland’s second city has moved a step forward.
Developer CxG Glasgow has submitted plans to create a 620-bed student accommodation building in Charing Cross.
The scheme marks the first phase of a wider redevelopment, which bosses say will deliver a “once-in-a-generation transformation” of Glasgow’s west side through new residential and commercial space.
They add demolition work – overseen by Reigart Contracts – is expected to be completed early next year, ahead of construction beginning in mid-2026.
Andrew Richardson, managing director – development (ESR Devco), said: “Momentum is building at Charing Cross.
“The planning application and appointment of a demolition contractor mark a major step towards realising our vision for a new city gateway.
“This is a commitment not just to transforming a site, but to investing in Glasgow’s future and creating spaces where people can live, study, work and thrive.”
