Gear maker motors on with airport partnership
A motor and gear unit maker has added thrust to operations with an airport deal.
SEW-EURODRIVE UK is supplying biomass lubricant to London Gatwick.
Bosses say the oil will be used on baggage handling equipment processing nearly 12 million pieces of luggage every year.
The deal builds on a 15-year partnership between SEW-EURODRIVE UK and London Gatwick, which has seen the business install more than 3000 gears and motors across its 674-hectare site.
Piers Todd, area sales manager at SEW-EURODRIVE UK, which operates from headquarters in Normanton, near Wakefield, said the oil – known as GearFluid – will “make a real difference to the airport’s operations and sustainability goals”.
He said: “GearFluid has been developed to reduce friction and wear, extending the service life of gears.
“It extends the interval between lubricant changes by up to 300 per cent, massively reducing cost, downtime and environmental impact.”
Stevie Summers, senior engineering manager at London Gatwick, added: “We are working to make sustainability part of everything we do.
“We’re proud to be one of the first to roll out GearFluid, and are looking forward to seeing the benefits over the next few years.”
