Unipol names new chief executive
Student housing charity Unipol, headquartered in Leeds, has appointed Sam Bailey-Watts as chief executive.
Sam brings over 30 years of experience in higher education accommodation, with senior roles at the University of Nottingham, Goldsmiths, University of London and as a former group board director at one of the UK’s largest student accommodation providers.
He joins at a time of continued demand for Unipol’s not-for-profit housing, which supports more than 3500 students across Leeds, Nottingham and Bradford.
Sam said: “Unipol's standing in the UK student housing sector is well established and during this challenging period for many, its role as advisor to many including government, coordinator of various standards, training provider and owner and operator of housing in both the private rented and PBSA sector, is more pivotal than ever before.
“We are a charity.
“That means that we continue to support students, code members and others through our endeavours without returning a surplus for the benefit of shareholders.
“Our values shape our approach and I am grateful and privileged to lead a team focused on improving standards for students throughout the UK.
“Engagement and collaboration as ever are key to our contribution to the wider audience.”
Stephen Willis, chair of the board of trustees, added: “Sam has provided invaluable leadership as interim group executive director over the last few months, guiding the team through a particularly challenging period for the higher education and accommodation sectors.
“His passion for Unipol’s mission, combined with his deep sector knowledge and leadership experience, makes him an excellent choice to lead the organisation at this pivotal time.”
