The Glasshouse appoints new chair to lead next chapter
The Glasshouse International Centre for Music, celebrating its 20th anniversary, has named Andy Haldane CBE as its new chair of the board to guide its future growth.
Located on the River Tyne in a building by Foster + Partners, The Glasshouse is a key music venue with national and international reach, deeply rooted in the North East.
Andy brings extensive experience from public service and economic leadership, having held senior roles including chief economist at the Bank of England and chief executive of the Royal Society of Arts.
Born in the North East and a lifelong Sunderland AFC supporter, he also has a strong personal connection to music, with his father having been a professional musician.
Andy, who will take up the role this autumn, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up the position of chair at The Glasshouse later this year.
“The Glasshouse is beacon of creativity and opportunity, not just for the North East but nationally and globally.
“As someone born in the North East and whose father was a musician, I know the pivotal role music and culture plays in lifting everyone’s lives.
“I look forward to working with the exceptional team at The Glasshouse and my fellow board members in unleashing even more of that creativity and opportunity for people in the North East and beyond.”
Andy’s appointment supports The Glasshouse’s ambitious plans for its third decade, which include launching The Glasshouse Academy for young and professional musicians, as well as a major capital investment to future-proof its facilities and a commitment to become the most financially accessible music centre in Europe.
