BEL Valves seals £5 million North Sea deal
A Newcastle-based manufacturer is making waves in the North Sea oil sector with a major contract to supply critical valve technology.
BEL Valves has secured a £5 million order to provide 11 actuated and 19 manual slab gate valves for the Murlach oil field development.
The valves, designed to withstand extreme pressures up to 690 bar in duplex and super duplex materials, will be installed on the topside platform of the field, which lies 203 km off the Aberdeenshire coast.
The Murlach project, a joint venture between BP Exploration Operating Company and NEO Energy, is set to begin oil extraction in 2025 with an expected lifespan of 11 years.
David Gallagher, project director of BEL Valves, said: “Murlach Field is a really significant North Sea project and to have our slab gate valves playing such a vital part in its operational safety is a great reflection of the trust the industry has in our products.
“The importance of high pressure, safety critical shut down valves can never be underestimated.”
