Hospice care wing transformed in full fit-out
A construction company has helped “breathe new life” into a Scarborough hospice by transforming a disused space into a care wing.
Castle Construction (Scarborough) has completed a three-month refurbishment at Saint Catherine’s Hospice, resulting in the new Castle Suite – an eight-room respite wing with upgraded patient facilities, improved access and dedicated staff areas, as well as a shared lounge, spa bathroom and kitchen.
The project, involving more than 20 skilled contractors, delivered a full fit-out including joinery, plumbing and electrics.
Ray Baird, chief executive of Saint Catherine’s, said: “This project has allowed us to breathe new life into an area of the hospice that had not been used since the pandemic.
“The transformation has been remarkable with every detail, from the soft lighting in the spa to the tranquil sea-themed artwork and the thoughtfully designed rooms, carefully considered to support our patients’ comfort and dignity.”
Castle Construction was established just two years ago and continues to expand its portfolio, recently securing a refurbishment contract with Boots for multiple stores.
Alex Willgrass, the firm’s director, has also raised more than £40,000 for the hospice through personal fundraising.
He said: “It is an honour and privilege to be able to put our own skills and expertise to work on such a worthwhile charity, one that immediately helps improve the lives of those in most need in our community.
“We have worked hand in glove with Ray and his team at the hospice, and I think the building is completely unrecognisable.”
