'Landmark' 1000-bed city student scheme approved
A developer has gained planning permission to build a 1000-bed city centre student accommodation hub.
Town Centre Securities has been backed to transform Leeds’ 1960s Wade House office block and create a neighbouring 37-storey high-rise.
Bosses say the “landmark” scheme, set for the city’s Merrion Centre, will “further cement the site’s position as a dynamic, mixed-use city destination”.
The blueprint – approved by Leeds City Council – includes 1039 bedrooms across studio and cluster apartments, as well as lounges, co-working spaces, a cinema, gym and karaoke room.
Craig Burrow, group property director at Leeds-based Town Centre Securities, said: “This marks a significant milestone in the continued evolution of this iconic city centre destination.
“We are proud to be repurposing Wade House in a way that respects its heritage, while unlocking the opportunity to provide high-quality student accommodation that will support Leeds’ growing population.”
