Take off for Leeds Bradford Airport's new terminal
An airport has opened a major new terminal extension as part of a £100 million transformation project.
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is now operating from its new terminal.
Passengers arriving and departing will benefit from a streamlined arrivals process, an upgraded passport control area and 83 per cent more seating.
Food, drink, and retail options have also been expanded, alongside the introduction of two premium lounges, including the new Six Eight One Premium Lounge.
John Cunliffe, commercial director of LBA, said: “Today is a huge milestone for LBA.
“Our new terminal is officially open and ready to welcome passengers, offering improve facilities and enabling us to deliver an enhanced experience for passengers in the region.
“As we transition into Phase 2 of the project, the changes will impact the usual passenger flows, and we’d like to thank passengers in advance for their understanding.”
The opening marks the completion of Phase 1 of LBA’s ongoing redevelopment, with Phase 2 – focused on refurbishing the existing terminal – now underway.
Once complete, the LBA:REGEN project will significantly boost the airport’s floor space, retail capacity, luggage reclaim and security infrastructure.
Some temporary changes to access and passenger flows are in place during Phase 2, which is set to complete by the end of 2026.
Vincent Hodder, chief executive at LBA, added: “We are delighted to see our new terminal extension open and operational today.
“It has been an incredible journey to get here, and we know our customers are going to get a completely new experience from LBA from today.
“It’s an exciting time for us too; for our employees, stakeholders and business partners, the opening of this building is a huge achievement for all involved.”
