Hartlepool packaging plant hits green milestone
A packaging facility has become the first of its kind in the UK to meet a company-wide standard for environmental performance.
Saica Group’s Hartlepool site has achieved the Saica Zero to Landfill Certificate – marking the first time any Saica Pack plant has secured the internal accreditation.
Developed by the group’s Saica Natur division, the recognition is independently verified and awarded to facilities that divert at least 95 per cent of waste from landfill through reuse, recycling or energy recovery.
The Hartlepool site recorded a 97 per cent diversion rate after a six-month audit process that covered 4000 tonnes of waste, with bosses saying it set “a benchmark for industry best practice”.
Simon Banks, UK & Ireland Saica Pack country manager, said: “We are delighted that Saica Hartlepool has been honoured with the Saica Natur Zero to Landfill recognition.
“This demonstrates Saica Group’s commitment to not just deliver sustainable solutions and exceptional service, but also to leading by example.”
Jim Malone, UK Saica Natur country manager, added: “With evolving waste regulations in the UK, Saica Pack Hartlepool is setting a benchmark for industry best practice.
“At Saica Natur, we support businesses to reduce operational costs, improve efficiencies and minimise their environmental footprint.”
To retain the certificate, the plant will undergo annual performance reviews and a full reassessment every three years.
