Theakston raises a glass to growth
A Yorkshire-based brewery says it is “well placed” to grow despite ongoing industry challenges.
In its latest annual report for the year ending 31 December 2024, T&R Theakston, a family-run business brewing in Masham for nearly 200 years, reported a pre-tax profit of £271,000 for 2024, up from £248,000 in 2023.
Turnover rose 7 per cent to £8.8 million, helped by strong sales of cask ales including Theakston Best, Theakston Old Peculier and Theakston XB, as well as the successful introduction of Theakston Quencher, a lower ABV beer at 3.4 per cent.
The report also notes that the brewery has carefully managed price increases to support pubs, while investing in its facilities to uphold beer quality.
Richard Bradbury, managing director of T&R Theakston, said: “We’re pleased to report our third consecutive increase in growth and profitability.
“These results highlight that our commitment to producing high quality beer, supporting our pub customers and listening to our consumers, is not only the right thing to do but is delivering positive results for our business.”
The brewery has also enjoyed a successful start to 2025, securing listings for Nowt Peculier 0.0% in 170 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide, alongside wider distribution of Theakston Quencher in over 500 ASDA and Morrisons stores.
Richard added: “Despite short term economic conditions looking challenging, we believe the brewery is well placed to out-perform the market.
“With a solid business foundation, healthy balance sheet and secure financial arrangements, we remain focused on growing our revenue through not only our strong brand performance but through broadening of our customer base.
“It’s with this in mind that we are confident T&R Theakston is well placed to continue to perform strongly, as we look forward to celebrating our bicentenary in 2027 and building beyond that into our third century of brewing legendary ales.”
