Whitley Bay butcher makes the cut
A North East family business is being recognised nationally for its craft and commitment to tradition.
Whitley Bay-based Nicholsons Butchers has been named a finalist in the first-ever British Butchery Awards.
The family-run butcher, which dates back to 1914, is now led by Kathryn Meadows, the fourth generation of Nicholsons and the first female to lead the business.
Known for its quality cuts, skilled craftsmanship and longstanding community ties, Kathryn says Nicholsons is “absolutely delighted and gobsmacked” to be named a finalist.
She said: “I’m absolutely delighted and gobsmacked to be a finalist.
“It’s an honour to stand alongside other fantastic butchers I’ve always looked up to such as Turnbull’s and Farmison.
“It's a great boost for the team and shows just how much effort, hard work and dedication that goes into everything we do, day in, day out."
The awards, run by National Craft Butchers, celebrate excellence across the UK, with judges assessing sustainability, skills and service.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on June 30.
