Mayor launches next phase of high streets fund
A regeneration boss has unveiled fresh plans to help revive high streets across York and North Yorkshire.
David Skaith, the mayor of York and North Yorkshire, has opened phase two of the Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund, part of the wider £27 million Mayoral Challenge Fund.
The second phase follows an initial funding round that supported 18 projects, with the initiative championing ideas that reflect local identity and need, with funding aimed at turning underused or outdated spaces into thriving, inclusive places for residents and visitors alike.
Organisations are now being urged to pitch bold and practical ideas that reflect the identity and needs of their local area, with a focus on long-term benefit.
Applicants must demonstrate how their proposals will generate ongoing benefits beyond the funding period to secure investment from the scheme.
Mayor Skaith said: “High streets have always been at the heart of our communities; they aren’t dying, they’re constantly changing.
“That is why I am so committed to investing in them.
“Residents and business owners understand the challenges and unique character of their areas best, and I am here to empower their vision.
“For this next phase, I am looking for bigger, bolder and more innovative ideas.
“Together, we can lead the change, so our high streets reflect local pride and meet the evolving needs of every community.”
