Adult Learning Service achieves Ofsted boost
An adult education provider has turned its performance around after a comprehensive improvement programme.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Adult Learning Service, which offers English, maths, digital skills and sector-based training including construction, has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in all areas, a leap from its previous ‘Inadequate’ rating.
Regular Ofsted monitoring visits throughout 2024 culminated in a final inspection in May this year.
Inspectors praised the swift progress made by the service, as well as the quality of education, leadership and the safe, supportive environment created for learners.
Officials say the result follows focused work to transform management practices, team culture and learner support.
Councillor Lynn Pallister, cabinet member for growth and enterprise at the council, said: “We are extremely proud of the achievements of the Adult Learning Service in getting a good Ofsted assessment, for raising standards and rebuilding confidence in the service.
“To achieve this turnaround in such a short period of time is rare and is truly outstanding for the council.
“Of course, the real beneficiaries of the positive Ofsted outcome are the learners who use the service every day, and they can rest assured a good service will continue going forward.”
