Housebuilder makes start on Northumberland estate
A housebuilder has broken ground on a 55-home development.
Ascent Homes is working on St Helen’s Gate, in Longhorsley, Northumberland.
Bosses say the estate will include two, three and four-bedroom homes, bungalows and affordable housing.
Paul Errington, Ascent Homes director, said: “We are thrilled to put the first spades in the ground at St Helen’s Gate.
“Both the affordable houses and the four-bedroom homes are being built with sustainability in mind, and all will be treated to fantastic views of Northumberland.”
He added Ashington-based Ascent Homes has now built more than 750 houses across the county, with plans in place to create “hundreds more” in the coming years.
Councillor Colin Horncastle, Northumberland County Council cabinet member for housing and planning, added: “This development represents the type of considered and community-focused growth we want to see in rural Northumberland.
“St Helen’s Gate will not only bring high-quality housing to Longhorsley, it will also meet the real needs of local people, particularly older residents looking to downsize without leaving the area they love.”
