NHSG tops class in pastoral care
A Newcastle independent school is celebrating national recognition for its commitment to student wellbeing.
Newcastle High School for Girls (NHSG) has won the Debrett’s Education Award for Outstanding Pastoral Care at the 2025 Muddy Stilettos National School Awards.
Chosen from over 500 schools, NHSG was praised for its inclusive and nurturing approach to pupil support, with the award recognising schools that go above and beyond to promote student wellbeing and pastoral care.
Mrs Amanda Hardie, head of NHSG, said: “We are absolutely overjoyed to have won the Debrett’s Education Award for Outstanding Pastoral Care.
“This is a wonderful acknowledgment for the care, compassion and deep expertise our staff bring to school life every single day.
“As an all-girl school, our pastoral programme is rooted in our deep understanding of how girls thrive and flourish.
“Our approach not only supports our pupils, but it also empowers each and every one of them – from our youngest girls in Junior School through to Sixth Form – giving them the space to develop their voice, grow in confidence and embrace their full potential both academically and as a person.”
This latest accolade follows a year of national attention for NHSG, including being shortlisted for the TES Independent Senior School of the Year and recognition in The Independent School of the Year Awards.
Mrs Hardie added: “These achievements are a testament to the outstanding dedication of our incredible staff team.
“Their unwavering commitment ensures that NHSG delivers an exceptional, future-ready education – one where girls are inspired, supported, and truly prepared to lead with strength and compassion in a changing world.”
