Demolition underway on town retail hub revamp
Work has started to redevelop a town retail hub.
Diggers have moved in to demolish Eston Precinct.
The scheme is set to create seven shops and new outdoor space, with power system upgrades planned to support events and markets.
Bosses say the work – overseen by Bowburn-headquartered Esh Construction and funded by the Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority – will deliver “a more attractive environment for shoppers and businesses”.
They add it will “enhance the appeal” of Eston, based between Redcar and Middlesbrough, and create “a vibrant and welcoming destination”.
Demolition is earmarked to be completed by early October, with phase one of the development – which will retain the Eston Precinct name – planned to be finished next summer.
Councillor Lynn Pallister, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s cabinet member for growth and enterprise, said: “This is an important day for the local community, which has waited a long time for this to happen.
“I can’t wait to be back next summer to celebrate its opening.”
Andy Radcliffe, Esh chief executive, added: “We are proud to be delivering the first phase of Eston Precinct and playing our part in this important regeneration project.”
