AEW secures approval for Croydon Drive retrofit
A Manchester-based housing estate is set for a major safety and energy upgrade.
AEW Architects has secured four Gateway 2 approvals for a 312-home retrofit project at Croydon Drive Estate, in Newton Heath.
Gateway 2 approval is a key step in ensuring safety and compliance under the 2022 Building Safety Act, introduced to enhance safety standards for higher-risk buildings in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
The work marks AEW’s largest retrofit to date, involving four high-rise towers and two low-rise blocks.
Working alongside Manchester City Council and contractors, AEW will deliver PAS2035-compliant upgrades including enhanced insulation, new windows and doors, passive fire safety measures and winter gardens.
Colin Savage, director at AEW Architects, said: “This achievement is a unique milestone for us and reaffirms our commitment to delivering a safe, sustainable and high-quality refurbishment.
“Our team has worked tirelessly with key stakeholders to ensure we meet every requirement and this approval from the Building Safety Regulator is a testament to its dedication and expertise.”
