Aviation trainer adds thrust with college partnership
A flight simulation and aviation training firm is flying high with an education partnership.
SimFly is helping deliver a new course at Stockton Sixth Form College.
The company is working with trainer Aviation Generation to roll out a level three BTEC qualification.
Bosses say the two-year aviation operations course – created by Aviation Generation’s Simon Witts – will “address the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals”.
The course will be delivered at the college and SimFly’s Darlington base, which includes flight and cabin crew training areas, an 18-seater cabin, and travel agent and border force training zones.
Stuart Ellerton, SimFly founder and owner, said: “The global aviation industry is soaring once again, and will require more than 2.2 million new personnel globally over the next two decades.
“The entire sector is recruiting on an unprecedented scale.
“This new course ensures our local young people can access the best industry-standard training and compete for those fantastic aviation opportunities.”
Mike Mackin, Stockton Sixth Form College’s head of centre, added: “This partnership represents a significant opportunity for young people in Stockton.
“Our students will be perfectly positioned to access exciting career opportunities in an industry that continues to show strong growth and innovation.”

The Stockton Sixth Form College partnership adds another education provider to SimFly’s contacts book, with bases including Darlington College, New College Durham, Gateshead College and Bishop Burton College, near Beverley, East Yorkshire, having already sent cohorts of learners to the business.
