New foundation puts vision into action
A Midlands-based business figure is putting philanthropy centre stage with a new family-led foundation focused on global health and education.
Entrepreneur Kumar Muthalagappan has launched the KM Foundation alongside his children Seetha, Deva and Dharma to support underprivileged communities through initiatives in healthcare, education and the arts.
The foundation will fund and deliver projects such as eye screening and surgery via a new partnership with global charity Orbis UK, which, through a series of eye camps will aim to screen 100,000 people over the next three years, with around 34,500 expected to require surgery and 50,000 receiving treatment or advice on managing their condition.
It is also supporting healthcare education through the London Sri Murugan Temple.
Kumar, whose career spans clinical research, hospitality and private equity, has held senior roles in several organisations and was awarded an OBE for services to hospitality in 2009.
He said: “The KM Foundation is an initiative set to not only progress lives in a meaningful way, but leave an impactful long-term legacy.
“We hope to achieve this by assisting disadvantaged communities progress their lives through greater access to education, by aiding social cohesion and economic progression within deprived areas, and by contributing to high impact health initiatives and research.
“Through providing assistance in these three areas, our goal is to deliver a positive influence on a wide range of communities as well as future generations, in the hope they give back to their own communities.
“We are very much looking forward to furthering the potential of individuals and communities, and to have a positive and lasting influence on their futures for the years and decades to come.”
