Raindrop turns up the heat with funding boost

A Cambridgeshire-based fire safety manufacturer has secured investment to accelerate its international growth.

Rapidrop Global, which supplies sprinkler systems and fire prevention components to customers in over 80 countries, has received multi-million-pound funding from BGF.

Bosses say the cash will support the firm’s plans to expand across Europe and further strengthen its product portfolio.

They add Rapidrop has appointed Chris Shelley as chief executive and Richard Whiting as chair to lead its next phase of expansion.

Chris said: “This backing provides a fantastic platform to further enhance our operations and capitalise on the strong tailwinds for growth.

“BGF’s investment and support will enable us to remain focused on driving product innovation and expanding our global footprint.

“I look forward to working closely with them and the entire Rapidrop team to deliver the next chapter of the company’s success.”

Operating in a market projected to grow rapidly due to tightening fire regulations and global construction, Rapidrop says it is one of only five manufacturers worldwide to hold major accreditations for fire suppression systems – and the only one independently owned in the UK.

Founded by Daniel Gill, the company has more than doubled in size since 2017 and remains majority-owned by the Gill family, with family members Dan Gill and Rebecca Park actively involved in driving the business forward.

The deal was led by Mark Nunny and Elena Kovalikhina from BGF’s Central & East investment team, marking their third investment in the past 12 months alongside Signify Research and Miracle Design & Play.

Mark added: “Rapidrop is a well-established brand in a rapidly expanding, regulation-driven market.

“With a diversified customer base – including distributors, installers, and contractors – Rapidrop has built a strong foundation for sustained growth.

“Rapidrop’s strong portfolio of proprietary products, combined with its global regulatory approval, provides a significant competitive advantage.

“We are excited to partner with Chris and the team to support the company’s ambitious growth plans.”
