Stadium serves up café boost
A Sheffield-based sports venue is enhancing its community offer with a new café concept.
Steel City Stadium has opened a flexible, matchday-ready sports café aimed at creating a more sociable and inclusive experience for players, fans and visitors.
The café, run in partnership with local operator Food Fusion, is open daily and adapts on evenings and weekends to host live sports screenings and tailored menus.
It sits alongside the stadium’s floodlit 3G pitch and 2000-capacity grandstand, which are available for local club and community bookings.
The café is part of Scarborough Group International’s (SGI) £10 million investment into Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, which also includes workspace, offices and serviced suites.
Home to leading research and health institutions – including the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, Canon Medical Arena and the upcoming National Centre for Child Health Technology – the park aims to connect sport, wellbeing and innovation through high-quality facilities and regeneration.
Joseph Udall, operations director at Steel City Stadium, said: “We’ve always seen Steel City Stadium as more than just a venue; it’s a catalyst for participation, innovation and community at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
“The sports café concept is a small but important step in realising that vision, helping to activate the stadium beyond the standard working week and making it a more engaging, accessible place for everyone who uses it, whether they’re playing, supporting or part of the wider business community.
“We trialled the format at a recent Sheffield Eagles fixture against York Knights and were really encouraged by how positively it was received, supporters stayed longer, used the space throughout the game, and gave us some great feedback on the offer.
“It’s a simple change, but one that adds real value to the matchday experience.”
