PR agency backs Cumbria’s Marathon Man
A Cumbrian-based PR agency is once again backing a high-profile local fundraiser as he takes on another record-breaking challenge.
Platinum Live has renewed its pro bono partnership with Gary McKee, known as Cumbria’s “Marathon Man,” as he prepares to run 100 marathons in 100 days in 2026.
The campaign will culminate in the London Marathon, where Gary plans to run alongside his son Beau, in a bid to raise £100,000 for Hospice at Home.
Gary said: “This target of £100,000 is part of a bid to reach £1 million in total fundraising for Hospice at Home over the last five years.
“Reaching that £1 million target for Hospice has been in my sights for a long time, and with just £100,000 to go, the 100toLDN challenge is my way of giving it one last big push.
“It’s great to be working with the Platinum Live team again; their support and resources are very much needed and appreciated with a challenge like this.
“Here we go again!”
This is not the first time the agency has worked with Gary.
In 2022, Platinum Live supported his headline-grabbing effort to run a marathon every day for a year, which raised £1.3 million for charity.
The agency is also currently supporting other charitable campaigns, including a global cycling challenge by Norfolk father-and-son duo George and Josh Kohler in aid of UNICEF.
Oliver Hodgson, managing director of Platinum Live, added: “Telling stories and planning campaigns with impact is our bread and butter, and working with such an inspiring and humble legend like Gary is an honour.
“We had a great time working with him and his raft of volunteers during the 365 challenge.
“It’s vital to us every year that we get involved in some sort of charitable project where we can make a real impact, and with this, it is about storytelling and awareness, and that’s just what we do.
“We want more eyeballs on this story and listening, reading and watching Gary’s efforts, so in turn they feel inspired and inclined to donate, of course!”
