Glazier celebrates work on 'iconic' building revamp
A window fitter has hailed smashing progress on a city regeneration scheme.
EYG Commercial has completed work to install glazing across Hull’s Monocle development.
The firm added features including neutral solar control glass and bronze panels and powder-coated trims to the 1960s office complex, which is undergoing a multi-million-pound facelift to create new workspaces.
It also retained gold reflective glass panels to form mirrors for an on-site gym in the former Europa House.
Richard Saunders, sales and estimating director at Hull-based EYG Commercial, said the firm is proud to have supported the transformation of an “iconic” local structure.
He said: “The building looks absolutely fantastic, and we were very proud to be selected to deliver the work.
“EYG is more than 50 years old – this building is just a bit older – so it meant the world to us to get this project.
“Everybody that drives into the city sees the building, and that external view is our work, so I’m very proud.”
Martin Shaw, installation manager, added: “There were quite a few challenges to this job, but the biggest was the limited space outside for fitting due to the scaffolding.
“We had to bring glazing to each floor inside the building, use a robot to pick them up and angle them through openings, and then pull them back into position into the glazing rebate.
“We had to do that 400 times.
“It’s been a challenging job, but one which has gone smoothly.”
