Powertrain firm drives global growth plans with engineering hub
An electrification and powertrain component firm has unveiled an engineering hub it says will help supercharge international growth plans.
Turntide Technologies has created an energy storage and battery technology production area at its Gateshead base.
Bosses say the site will position the company, which designs and makes electric motors, energy storage and thermal management systems, “at the forefront of global electrification efforts”.
They add the move has merged activity from an energy storage base in Sunderland and a Cramlington-based fans, motors and pumps site with operations at its site on Team Valley Trading Estate.
The Sunderland and Cramlington bases will remain operational to provide additional storage and engineering testing space.
The Team Valley hub was officially commissioned by North East mayor Kim McGuinness, with its opening coming just days after the firm secured a £10 million rail deal to supply a battery system to County Durham trainbuilder Hitachi Rail.
Steve Hornyak, Turntide Technologies’ chief executive, said: “This campus forms the core of Turntide’s global electrification operations and reinforces our commitment to supporting the decarbonisation of anything that moves.
“The North East has an extraordinary legacy of innovation in electrification, and we are proud to be part of that continuing story.”
Mayor McGuinness added: “The North East will be the home of the green energy revolution, and our work with companies like Turntide Technologies shows we are making that happen.
“While we have a proud history as an industrial powerhouse, the North East is once again leading the way with an innovative manufacturing sector.”
