Torque expands with warehouse deal

A logistics firm is scaling up operations to meet rising demand and support future growth.

Leeds-headquartered Torque Retail Services has agreed a 15-year lease on a 398,000sq ft warehouse at Wakefield Europort – the company’s largest facility to date and its second on the site. 

Bosses say the move boosts the end-to-end supply chain specialist’s operational capacity and flexibility, following a series of new client wins.

They add the new warehouse, named California 400, adds to Torque’s growing network, which spans seven UK locations and includes nine warehouses.

Stewart Firth, head of operations at Torque, which was founded in Bramley in 1991 and now employs more than 1600 people, said: “This was the quickest and largest lease we have ever done. 

“It was a pleasure working with Copley Point.”

Property agents CBRE and Carter Towler negotiated the deal on behalf of landlord Copley Point. 

Mike Baugh, executive director, industrial and logistics at CBRE, added: “This is a significant deal for the Yorkshire region and provides our client with the capability to accommodate its growing customer base. 

“Delivering this outcome within the agreed three-week timeline is a credit to both parties and reflects their execution speed and efficiency. 

“California 400 is well-positioned at Wakefield Europort, one of the North’s major distribution hubs, so it is ideally placed to serve Torque’s continued expansion plans.”

Guillaume Savoie-Coulonval, managing director of Copley Point, added: “We are delighted to have secured Torque at California 400 on a long-term lease and to have delivered on the compressed timeline.
