New appointments confirmed at NCBF
The Northern Counties Builders Federation (NCBF) has appointed Chris Morris as senior vice-president and Tony Kay as secretary, marking a new chapter for the North East construction body.
Chris, company secretary at Compass Developments, steps up from junior vice-president, a role now taken on by outgoing senior vice-president Matthew McCarrick.
Chris said: “This is an interesting time to take on the senior vice-president role.
“The Government is looking increasingly to our sector to drive growth, and we shall have to see what incentives and support are made available to enable us to train the number of people required.
“Meanwhile, in line with our strategy to tackle the image of our industry and encourage many more people to enter it, the NCBF is undertaking a rebrand and will be launching its new website to showcase the industry as a modern, attractive sector to work within.”
Tony, a former NCBF president and director at Classic Masonry and Bespoke Concrete, succeeds long-serving secretary Neil Ramsey.
The NCBF continues to champion skills, training and careers in construction through initiatives such as Building Your Future and the North East Schools Wonder Challenge.
Angela Carney, president at NCBF, added: “Chris and Tony both play a crucial role within the committee and have helped to achieve a range of highly successful outcomes in those areas where we look to achieve maximum impact, such as the skills gap, tackling the image of our sector and working closely with the region’s educational providers.
“As a collective, our role is to help facilitate the development and maintenance of a sustainable North East construction industry.
“As we turn our attention to the latter half of 2025 and towards 2026, we will be continuing to work alongside colleges with our Building Your Future campaign and we also have an exciting joinery challenge that will be launched in the autumn.”
