Air ambulance flies high with £50,000 support
An emergency response service is flying high after securing a £50,000 donation.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service has been backed by Apache Corporation.
Bosses say the cash will make a “significant contribution” to the charity’s fuel costs and help maintain critical care operations across the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Scotland and the Isle of Man.
They add it represents the largest-ever single donation from a corporate supporter to the Great North Air Ambulance Service, which responded to more than 2000 incidents last year.
Under the terms of the partnership, Aberdeen-headquartered oil and gas exploration and production company Apache’s logo now features on the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s Guardian of the North II helicopter, which operates out of a base on the outskirts of Eaglescliffe, near Stockton.
Ben Sisson, Great North Air Ambulance Service CSR and philanthropy specialist, said: “As a charity, we don’t receive Government funding and need to raise £9.3 million a year to remain operational, which is a huge task.
“The donation of £50,000 is greatly appreciated and we hope they feel proud knowing Apache’s contribution will enable our critical care teams to continue helping severely ill or injured patients across the region.”
Greg McDaniel, Apache senior vice president: international assets, added: “Community wellbeing is one of our key pillars.
“Supporting local first responders and emergency services ensures everyone in our communities can benefit from receiving critical care in their time of need, and the outstanding service the Great North Air Ambulance Service team provides helps save countless lives in the community every year.”
